In order to live free and happily you must sacrifice boredom. It is not always an easy sacrifice. ~Richard Bach
I first read this quote while I was in college. Through the years it’s meaning has changed depending upon what was happening at the time.
Today, my life is going well. I am blessed with a lovely family, a good job, and nice things. It is easy to sit back and bask in the warmth of these nice things. And, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
However, there are times when I become afraid that one or more of these things will go away-I’ll do something stupid at work, my family will start arguing about something, or someone will steal something of mine.
Unfortunately, I can’t control what happens around me. But, if I work to stay in the moment. If I have a goal and am striving to accomplish it. In other words, if I work to give up boredom, then I don’t have time to brood about what might go wrong.
Unfortunately, Richard is right. It isn’t easy.
